Nowadays, nearly all businesses are building up a website in order to expose their products and services to more customers. Most companies just design the website and upload it and then wait for customers to come to the website. This should not be the case as you have to optimize the site for it to appear highly on search engines so that customers can easily find you. This is what is known as search engine optimization (SEO).

Your website needs to satisfy the search engine’s algorithms, in order to get indexed by the search engine spiders and rank higher in the SERP. Most of the search engine algorithms follow the same set of protocols. However, the algorithm is developed differently by different search engines, using a similar set of protocols. The website that follows the algorithm better ranks better. Optimizing your website for the search engine algorithm is called search engine optimization (SEO).

A SEO Professional or SEO firm is trained in SEO metrics and every factor that Google takes into considerations when they analyze websites and makes their rankings. They know how to optimize your website to its fullest without going overboard or making costly mistakes that penalize your Google rankings in SEO. See, a lot of people and websites out there have overused keywords so much to land higher in the rankings that now this type of keyword density within your website will get you penalized and land your website even further down than where you started out. A SEO Professional knows how to not make these errors.

Having gotten your keywords or key phrases, you have to put them on the website. The Title tag is one important area where you should put the keywords as this is the first content that search engines will come across when crawling your website. Use the keywords in a descriptive sentence to enable your visitors know what to expect from your website. Also, ensure you use the keywords in the headings and body content of your website. Space them out evenly so that they don?t appear cluttered as this may make your website to be penalized by search engines as they may think you are stuffing keywords. Try to use the keyword once for every 100 words you write.

However, SEO also has a few drawbacks that prompt you to think – ?should you opt for SEO – is it really useful?? SEO is not a one time job. Rather, you need to keep optimizing your website lifelong. You might need to spend hours of time every day, doing SEO for your site. Even after working very hard, the positive results are not guaranteed. Furthermore, your high rank could fall down the ladder any time as a result of competition or a new algorithm adapted by the search engines.

You have to incorporate SEO in your website if you are to get traffic. The above techniques will help you get started with optimizing the website.

Bing Search Engine Optimization Made Easy

If you follow search engine marketing then no doubt you’ve been hearing about Microsoft’s latest search engine release called Bing. Bing promises a new user experience for those surfing the web. This is a pretty necessary rework of Microsoft’s previous search in an effort to compete with both Google and Yahoo. There appears to be more press than ever covering this launch as Microsoft is seeking to make radical changes to their business model.

The question that website owners want answered is how Bing produces results differently than the previous search engine and what optimization techniques should be used compared to those used for other major search engines. Ive done quite a bit of research on the subject and it appears that there are only a few factors that might influence Bing results compared to Google. The thing to keep in mind is that following SEO best practices will rule the day.

When looking at top ranked websites, an in depth analysis can be done to see which factors vary between top results. A recent comparison that I viewed showed that the number one ranking website on Bing was able to keep a leg up on the competition by having an older domain age, and having inbound links from websites that included the primary keyword in the referring sites title tag. In short, the top web site was successful in building inbound links from other SEO sites and directories as opposed to being from unrelated websites.

What I find particularly interesting is that Bing is relying on many of the same factors that Google has been using from day one. The factor you should be most concerned with is inbound linking. All major search engines like inbound links. More importantly, they like relevant in bound links. Use this information to guide your SEO campaigns and determine which sites to target for link exchanges.

By know you know the importance of improving your web site’s organic search results. This creates more awareness, traffic, and positive results. Maybe you know about the importance of organic rankings but don’t have the resources to move your site towards the top of the search results. Don’t worry about organic results, begin small and focus on building links to your site. Once you do, you can see positive improvements in your rankings on Bing and other search results.

Another area of importance is content. Search engines like Bing look for fresh, relevant content. You want to make sure that your content is valuable to browsers and web site visitors but that it is also relevant and up to date. Consider adding a revising content on a regular basis. This helps you succeed in generating inbound links and quality scores from search engine algorithms.

You might be wondering which search engine you should be optimizing your web site for. Based on what I’ve seen, I’m encouraged by preliminary Bing related findings. I believe that Bing is using many of the same factors that Google uses to evaluate a sites relevance to a search query. As always, focus on white hat methods to optimize your site and follow SEO basics.

How To Use Flickr As a Marketing Tool!

5,419 uploads in the last minute, 71,248 things tagged with jump, 3.0 million things geotagged this month. Do you still need a reason to get yourself a Flickr account?

Flickr is quickly becoming a popular online marketing tool for it allows creative agencies to market their products through a visually appealing medium. It can help you generate traffic to your website and ensure that your website ranks higher on the major search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing too. Consider this, according to Nielsen or NetRatings, Flickr is the fastest-growing photo sharing site on the web. It is the 7th most trafficked social media site overall.

Flickr is primarily a photo-sharing community, owned by Yahoo!. You can use your Yahoo! Login ID and password to log onto Flickr and use your account to tag your photographs, share them and participate in the community discussions as well. The photographs, which you post on Flickr, might leave a lasting impression in the minds of the millions of Flickr users and some of them might end up being your potential customers as well. By networking actively on the community forums, you can build your contacts and build greater awareness about your business and services as well. You could use the links from Flickr to further your link popularity too!

Video is for everyone too! As a member of Flickr, you can upload and share videos (business videos and presentations too!) just like you do with photos.

To avail the benefits of SEO through Flickr, you need inbound links, which you could obtain in the form of links from other blogs and websites. Ensure that the photo title matches the title tag or element. You are assured higher rankings for the phrase. Most importantly, you should only try to sell unique and noteworthy product or services-related photographs through Flickr.

Quick tips for marketing your business on Flickr:

* Use your business/website name as your Flickr display name.

* Use the best, relevant photographs to advertise your business.

* Actively participate in the Flickr community. Find groups relevant to your business and join them.

* Tag your photographs with terms that are relevant to your business or service. Provide a link to your Flickr account on your website.

However, don’t post advertising messages on the discussion forums or stuff keywords in your tags. You could end up turning “off” the community and users, and not being able to generate any interest in your photostream too. To top that, Flickr added “nofollow” tags to links placed within its website last year. Flickr implemented these tags for the same reason as a number of other social-media sites – to prevent misuse and spamming.
