WordPress is one of the world’s major and most widely used blogging software system. When it comes to Search Engine Optimisation it is one of the hottest platforms that you can use.
This is part of a series of tip articles just about using WordPress for leveraging on Search Engine Optimization.
Tip: Make sure the blog is on YOUR site
So often we are asked about adding a blog on another website such as Blogger or Wordpress.com which provides free blog hosting and has a high PR rank.
If you are using your blog to enhance your SEO then you HAVE to place your blog on your web site – it cannot live on on a another domain.
Do not even think about using a sub-web such as http://www.blog.myhotsite.com. Why would you use a sub web anyhow unless if you want a cool blog URL.
Sub webs are part of your internet site but they are unclear from an SEO position. If you want to have the blog content 100% affiliated with your website then make sure it is off a sub folder and NOT a sub web for example : http://www.myhappysite.com/blog.
Placing your blog on a sub web will not give you the same SEO advantage as having them as a sub-folder on your website. Sub webs may be treated different by different search engines – the result outcome will be unclear.
If your blog is currently on WordPress.com or Blogger.com then consider quickly to move it and it’s contents to your physical website. Shifting a WordPress.com hosted site to your own WordPress site hosted by you is uncomplicated – do a database backup and then set up WordPress on your site and then restore the contents. Moving a Blogger site to a WordPress site is not that easy. If you want to study how to do this then just Google – “moving a blogger blog to wordpress” and you will get some great hints on how to do this.
One fundamental thing to watch out for if you move a large blog to your site (with lots of content), that if you are currently ranking for a number of keywords, then your ranking can be gravely affected after you have added your blog content.
We have experienced client ranking drop after adding a lot of new content in the form of a blog to a clients sites. Adding a hit of new content ‘dilutes’ your current site content if the new content is NOT Search Engine Optimization optimized for the keywords that you want to rank for. SEO Optimize the content before making it live to avoid this dilution process. Taking the time to do this BEFORE you add it to your site will make a big difference to your immediate ranking position.

Nowadays, nearly all businesses are building up a website in order to expose their products and services to more customers. Most companies just design the website and upload it and then wait for customers to come to the website. This should not be the case as you have to optimize the site for it to appear highly on search engines so that customers can easily find you. This is what is known as search engine optimization (SEO).
Your website needs to satisfy the search engine’s algorithms, in order to get indexed by the search engine spiders and rank higher in the SERP. Most of the search engine algorithms follow the same set of protocols. However, the algorithm is developed differently by different search engines, using a similar set of protocols. The website that follows the algorithm better ranks better. Optimizing your website for the search engine algorithm is called search engine optimization (SEO).
A SEO Professional or SEO firm is trained in SEO metrics and every factor that Google takes into considerations when they analyze websites and makes their rankings. They know how to optimize your website to its fullest without going overboard or making costly mistakes that penalize your Google rankings in SEO. See, a lot of people and websites out there have overused keywords so much to land higher in the rankings that now this type of keyword density within your website will get you penalized and land your website even further down than where you started out. A SEO Professional knows how to not make these errors.
Having gotten your keywords or key phrases, you have to put them on the website. The Title tag is one important area where you should put the keywords as this is the first content that search engines will come across when crawling your website. Use the keywords in a descriptive sentence to enable your visitors know what to expect from your website. Also, ensure you use the keywords in the headings and body content of your website. Space them out evenly so that they don?t appear cluttered as this may make your website to be penalized by search engines as they may think you are stuffing keywords. Try to use the keyword once for every 100 words you write.
However, SEO also has a few drawbacks that prompt you to think – ?should you opt for SEO – is it really useful?? SEO is not a one time job. Rather, you need to keep optimizing your website lifelong. You might need to spend hours of time every day, doing SEO for your site. Even after working very hard, the positive results are not guaranteed. Furthermore, your high rank could fall down the ladder any time as a result of competition or a new algorithm adapted by the search engines.
You have to incorporate SEO in your website if you are to get traffic. The above techniques will help you get started with optimizing the website.

A search on any search engine for a popular keyword yields thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of results. In this competitive scenario, Search Engine Optimization or SEO enables a firm to figure among the top search results for a search relating to a specific word. Figuring at the top of a web search can attract more traffic for your website, resulting in more business, and that is why SEO has gained such popularity in the last few years.
There are two kinds of SEO – white hat and black hat. Black hat SEO involves somewhat unaccepted means to get a website to the top of the search rankings. In contrast, white hat SEO abides by all the rules prescribed by the search engines and concentrates on the techniques which are largely accepted.
To connect a particular web page to a specific keyword, the search engines earlier utilised the Meta data of the page that has been made a part of the code of that page. But, nowadays, most search engines have started using complicated algorithms which assess over two hundred different factors to rank search results.
SEO consultants constantly attempt to guess the importance of different factors that play a part in the search algorithms and stay up to date with the changes that search engines make. This information helps them fine-tune the SEO strategies for their clients so that they remain competitive for selected keywords. For the earlier algorithms, which used only the Meta data and web site content, the optimization technique used was to bring the desnity of a keyword on the page to a proper level and dealing with the Meta tags of the page.
Although these aspects are critical even today, the popularity of the web page is now more significant for the search engines. The popularity of a web page is estimated based on the number of links to it from other web pages. Every single link is hence taken as a vote for the page and the system becomes democratic in nature. Because of this, now SEO has to concentrate on offsite techniques too, such as providing content for free to get inbound links and establishing a presence on online hubs for social interaction, such as blogs, forums etc.
The most crucial factor to remember about SEO is that it is not static. The field is constantly changing and your techniques need to adjust to those changes. That is why it is so critical to have a good SEO consultant by your side.
